Quality Regional Food, our main area of work here involved the implementation of the Department's Regional Food Strategy. These activities focus on trade development, consumer awareness and improving business competitiveness.
Our support for the local food sector focuses on helping local producers market their produce, overcome barriers to market (e.g. distribution) and find outlets for that produce. EU Protected Food Names (PDOs, PGIs, TSGs)
Our main policy aim is to increase the number of UK products protected under the schemes.

Mrs Kristina Jonäng is chairman of the environmental committee in the Region Västra Götaland.  Kristina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economic History from Göteborg. She started to work with politics as a teenager and served as the chairman for the Centre Party Youth from 1993 to 1996. Since 1999 Kristina has been the chairman of the environmental committee. She will talk about how the municipalities can promote local food

Food from Britain runs a  Defra funded national campaign to promote Britain's regional food and drink industry and works closely with a network of regional food and drink groups.  Programme activities include trade development through 'meet the buyer' events within the retail and food service sectors, consumer awareness initiatives and projects designed to help producers become more competitive through advice on benchmarking and distribution.  FFB's regional food and drink website, www.regionalfoodanddrink.co.uk, includes details of over 3,100 local producers.  FFB is closely involved with English Wine Week and the Great British Cheese Festival.

Also report about experiences of the territory (Pistoia and Tuscany) with the possibility of tasting the typical products and also the presentation of some of them with typical pistoiese of Tuscan dinner.

Is a PhD-student at the Department of Restaurant and Culinary Arts at Örebro University, Sweden. He is working with a dissertation project investigating from an ethnological viewpoint how food culture heritage is commercialised and politicised in Sweden and Nordic countries. Important research questions are how to investigate how some parts of the food culture is regarded as useful and other parts ignored or “forgotten”. The empirics consist of interviews with politicians, civil servants, restaurant managers and marketing consultants. At this conference he will present some research results on how Swedish local and regional food culture was chosen and presented for European ministers and politicians during the Swedish EU-chairmanship in 2001.

Works at the Austrian Marketing Board for Agricultural Products as a project leader. She is responsible for regional food projects, as for instance co-operation projects between gastronomy and agriculture and she supervises a national campaign in Austria, which is called “Austria country of Specialities”. Besides she is the general secretary of an association named culinary heritage.
The Agrarmarkt Austria Marketing GesmbH uses the instruments of classical advertising, sales promotion and PR. Its objectives include the raising of the awareness of consumers for the importance of quality, freshness and the origin of foodstuffs and to thus promote the sale of agricultural products. Marketing activities not only focus on Austria, but also on other EU markets most of all Germany and Italy.
Agrarmarkt Austria Marketing GesmbH is responsible for various quality assurance programs using different symbols for identification purposes.

Marketing Consultant – Food Products. A member of Slow Food Swedish Ark Commission and a Suovas Presidium Coordinator. I will inform how Swedish Sami producers, under domestic competition, have succeeded in creating a common quality standard and a positive and fruitful cooperation going to market. This is done based on the Suovas Presidium project and in an attempt to establish a future model for marketing of reindeer meat.

My research field can be concluded as embedded logistic competence in industrial products and services, where packaging logistic systems is one utmost application area. I will present some research on logistic of local food in a community.

My research focuses on development of Life Cycle Methodology for food systems and environmental impact of technological development within food industries. A second research area is analyses of future food systems by use of scenario techniques. Lately I have been working with studies on environmental assessment of different meals and improvement options for producing these meals, in a Life Cycle perspective. I have also been involved in developing and analyzing scenarios for future, more sustainable farm production of different products. My presentation will mainly be an overview of principal environmental impacts of food production systems, and the connections within the system.

Transport of slaughter animals is increasing steadily in the last decades in relation to structural adjustment within the abattoir system leading to significant reduction of number abattoirs. Other factors that accelerated slaughter animal transport are internationalization and globalization of trade and EU agricultural policy. Transport and associated activities induce stress on animals compromising welfare and health, reducing meat quality and increasing spread of disease. Minimising or avoiding transport by encouraging small-scale local abattoirs could be among the main strategies to improve animal welfare and meat quality and minimizing the risk of spreading disease.

I work as project leader of a transnational Interreg IIIC project called Culinary Heritage Europe. The project is owned by Carrefour South Sweden in Ystad and that is also my place of work. I have been working in the project since its start in June 2003. The project has 11 partners form 8 European regions.
Carrefour is a regional EU-office under the European Commission. It has two tasks. One is to inform the public about the EU and the second is to run European projects. Carrefour has specialised in food production and regional development and is the founder and owner of the Network of Culinary Heritage, which can be found in over 20 regions across Europe.
In my presentation I will describe the Interreg project and its contents. I will also describe the relation to the business network Culinary Heritage Europe and the importance of sustaining regional food across Europe.
